Inscriptions

The inscriptions from Caesarea Maritima show us a range of status levels ranging from slaves, to average women, to higher class women. A trend we see throughout all of these inscriptions is that all the women referenced are mentioned through their connection to others. Almost all the women referenced are confined to their roles as wives, mothers, or daughters. In contrast the majority of men are referenced by their jobs or political positions rather than their family roles.
