Sculpture

One of the most surprising trends in the material evidence is the lack of sculpture throughout Caesarea Maritima. We have only fragments of sculpture that may have shown women. Much of the sculpture we do have from this area is religious based, depicting gods and heroes. Women are very poorly represented through sculpture in this area. We have a few funerary sculptures of women but there is only minimal evidence.

Sculpture fragment - Arm

Terra-cotta fragment of an arm, from the statue of a woman. The fragment starts at the elbow and ends at either a sleeve or bracelet which was formed from a strip of clay and added on after.
