Notes
The exact function of an 'archibomistes' is unclear, although its does not appear to be confined to a single cult or deity; this title appears in inscriptions at Gerasa associated with Pakeiades and Hera, and with Apollo (Gatier 1988, 151, no.5). Gatier (1988, 152-154) argues that the archibomistes was involved in sacrifice, perhaps serving different functions for different gods, while [Lichtenberger: βωμός ("altar") suggests that Pakeidas was depicted as an altar]. The title appears in at least two other inscriptions from Gerasa in addition to the one presented here (Gatier 1988, 151-154, nos.5-6).

Notes
These two blocks were found built into the wall of the Nymphaeum, which dates to 190 CE. As the dedicatory inscription is dated to 145/146 CE (in the local era=208; but cf. Welles 1938, 386), the base and associated statues were apparently only on display for half a century before being reused.
Jones (1985, 158) restores ΔΕΟC ΗΛΙΟΥ as the first deity in the inscription. Theos Arabikos is mentioned in several other Gerasene inscriptions (Welles 1938, 384-386 nos.19-22); Theos Arabikos may be associated with the Arab deity Dusares, or perhaps with the Gerasene god Pakeidas (Welles 1938, 385).

Mentions the name "Lysimache"
Notes
Welles (1938) suggests AMYN[ be restored as AMYN[TOU] (Amyntas), a popular Greek name found elsewhere in Gerasa in the second and third c. CE (Welles 1938, pg.393, no.40; pg.440, no.188). Gatier (1988, 151-152) notes the rare popularity of Macedonian names (Lysimache, Amyntas) at Gerasa, perhaps reflecting control over the city by Macedonian generals in the period after Alexander the Great's death.
